Hasn’t our living style changed drastically with modernization? Having spare time is like a fantasy for most of us. Long hours of jobs and merging ourselves into research fields and schooling has dominated our 24/7.
Earlier, I had no world besides schooling. I remember it was July 2018, when I visited the school library and saw a book called ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. I went there to issue my course books. But due to some reasons, I ended up borrowing The 7 Habits book.
Reading this didn’t bring divine changes in me. Instead, I saw many possible ways to live my life peacefully yet with strong principles.
Now, let’s check out the books that will boost your personal skills, shall we?
1. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
– Stephen R Covey
Since reading it for the first time, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has always been on the list of my favorite books. This book focuses on simple principles, which when followed enhances our way of thinking. It urges inner demand to expand our spectrum of knowledge.
Stephen R Covey believed that following all the principles in the book might be difficult at a particular time. But having a continuous effort to harmonize a few of these principles in our daily life will bring positive results.
The primary lesson you would grasp from the book is about Time Management. Amid this Coronavirus Pandemic, we have a great opportunity to imply this principle.
How many of us pick up the phone right after hearing the first beep? Can you resist doing it so as to not interrupt the important task you have been doing at that time?
For most people including me, I doubt so. But with the Time Management Matrix from this book, I have been able to prioritize my important activities first. This Matrix helps you to differentiate urgent and non-urgent activities. Also, we are able to determine whether the task we are doing is important, or otherwise.
Urgency drives most of us. When we head towards the deadline, our actual works come into play. However, Stephen writes about the importance of elements in Quadrant II – tasks that are Important, but Not Urgent.
It takes self-leadership to follow Quadrant II. Even though it might not bring in quick changes, we will slowly observe its deepest outcome. This teaches us Why Investing in Yourself is so Important?
Another valuable lesson from this book is the mentality of Win/Win. What it means is that we have to make sure whatever we do, it’s a win for us as well as the other person. For example, during a negotiation, we shouldn’t focus on just what we want. We have to consider the other person’s desires as well, and in the end, come to a mutually beneficial agreement.
Going for what both of us want creates a synergistic environment and builds a trust that is essential for mutual growth. This win/win idea is very realistic and essential in our personal life as well as professional life.
Likewise, the book suggests us to picture the end results and examine what matters the most to you. Finding a solid destination is the beginning of your successful life.
When you visualize what to achieve, you can track your requirements to accomplish your goals. This will support you to identify the major issues before even jumping to achieve those goals.
So, let’s embrace principles from this book to Know About Ourselves, shall we?

2. The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari
– Robin Sharma
The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari is a masterpiece by Robin Sharma, which has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. The book emphasizes living with the fullest and accepting all the changes that come into our life.
Julian, the main character, explores the world of sages and learns lessons of enlightened living. With the motive to inspire the world, he comes back to his country and shares his learning with his friend John.
Each second of our life is determined by how we choose to live it. The only problem is when we strike with difficulties, most of us leave without going further. After all, we all love to choose the easy path, don’t we?
We create many excuses that interrupt our growth. To put my own example, I blame myself saying that my body needs long hours of sleep. For that reason, I wasn’t being able to accomplish my daily goals. I felt I was having a shortage of time. It’s a huge Challenge As a Millennial for most of us. I was astonished to find out from the book that it was a way to create an excuse for self-discipline.
Robin states that it is not how long we sleep that matters, it is what the quality of sleep is. A person driven with motives doesn’t need to sleep long hours, it is his laziness that provokes him to blame his body.
In the book, Robin has widened my view on personal growth with illustrated examples. The simple story of a sumo wrestler in the book has been able to grasp my attention to the principle of radiant living. The significance of the golden stopwatch in the story is that there is nothing without time. So, be the time consciousness and plant the thriving inspiration within you.
